Why is the CIEP carrying out this survey?
This is the CIEP’s first survey in almost 10 years. They want to better understand members’ experiences, priorities and views to guide their decisions about their future priorities, services and support.
Who is Research by Design (RbD)?
Research by Design is an independent research company that has been appointed to carry out the survey on behalf of the CIEP.
All responses will remain anonymous and confidential. Research by Design works in line with the Market Research Society’s Code of Conduct, which sets professional standards for market and social research. Research by Design is part of Box Delta Insights.

How will my data be protected?
Research by Design is registered as a Data Controller to undertake research in any field, including market, health, lifestyle, scientific or technical research, under the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018 as applicable; registration number Z5405593.
Research by Design is committed to meeting the requirements of the following laws and codes:
- The UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR)
- The EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR)
- Data Protection Act 2018
- ICC/ESOMAR (European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research) International Code on Market and Social Research

How is the research being carried out?
In June, an online survey will be distributed via email to all current and recently lapsed members for whom a valid email address is held. The survey will close on Monday 20th July at 9am.
Is the online survey secure?
Yes. Respondent data is encrypted in transit (via HTTPS) and is stored encrypted in EU data centres.
How will I be invited to participate in the online survey?
Research by Design will send an email invitation to ask for your participation in the survey. You can verify the validity of the email by checking the ‘from’ address, which will be [email protected].
What if I am a member and have not received a link to take the survey?
The invitation to take part in the survey will be sent in batches over several days.
If you are a current CIEP member and haven’t received an invitation after all survey emails have been sent, please contact Grace Sampayo at [email protected].
How long will the survey take?
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete.
Can I leave the survey and come back later?
Yes. Your responses are saved as you move through the survey, so you can leave and return later if needed.
Once you have submitted the survey, you won’t be able to make changes. If you need to amend a submitted response, please contact Grace Sampayo at Research by Design to discuss the options available: [email protected]
How do I submit my survey?
When you reach the final page, simply select the submit button at the bottom of the page. Your responses will then be securely sent to Research by Design. If you do not complete the survey, your saved answers may still be used in the analysis as a partial response.
Will I receive reminder emails?
Yes. Research by Design will send reminder emails during the survey period to people who have not yet completed the survey to help encourage participation.
How will my responses be used?
Survey responses will be analysed and reported in summary form. Any comments provided will be grouped into themes and will not be attributed to individual respondents.
All responses will remain anonymous and confidential.
The findings will help inform future priorities, services and support across the CIEP. The CIEP will share a summary of the findings once the survey has closed.
